Jewellery Care Guide

A few simple habits will help preserve the finish, structure and character of your pieces as they become part of your everyday life.

Every STELLAR+MONIQUE order includes a Town Talk general jewellery microfibre cloth and a silver anti-tarnish cloth for our vermeil pieces to help you care for your jewellery at home.

Make sure your jewellery is completely clean and dry before storing it.

Keep each piece separately in a jewellery box, soft pouch or dry enclosed space to minimise moisture, oxidation, tangling and contact with other jewellery. Avoid storing your pieces in bathrooms or other humid areas.

Fasten chains before storing them and lay them flat, particularly herringbone and other structured chains that may bend or kink when folded.

The simplest rule is to put your jewellery on last and take it off first.

Allow perfume, moisturiser, sunscreen and other beauty products to dry before putting on your jewellery. Remove your pieces before showering, swimming, exercising, sleeping, cleaning or undertaking activities where they may be exposed to moisture, chemicals, pressure or impact.

Handle clasps and settings gently, and avoid pulling chains or removing rings by their gemstones.

After every wear, gently wipe your jewellery with the included Town Talk microfibre cloth. This removes the moisture, natural oils and product residue that can collect on the surface throughout the day.

Use light pressure and take particular care around gemstones, settings and delicate components. The microfibre cloth is chemical-free and can be washed and reused.

Avoid harsh cleaning products, abrasive materials and repeated polishing, as these may affect the surface finish of your jewellery. We recommend gently wiping the gold vermeil jewellery using the Town Talk anti-tarnish silver cloth every few weeks to keep a beautiful finish.

Gold vermeil is designed to be worn and enjoyed, but its surface will naturally respond to wear, moisture and the way it is handled.

Wipe your vermeil jewellery with the general microfibre cloth after every wear and store it in a clean, dry place. Avoid soaking it or using silver cloths, chemical cleaners, polishing compounds or abrasive materials.

Over time, the gold surface may gradually soften or change. If your piece requires professional attention or replating, our S+M Renew service can help restore its finish.

Our sterling-silver pieces are finished with rhodium to create their bright, luminous appearance and provide additional resistance to tarnishing.

Use the general microfibre cloth for regular care, applying only light pressure. Avoid aggressive polishing, as repeated polishing may gradually affect the finish. The anti-tarnish silver cloth may also be used every so often to keep the finish nice and shiny.

Solid gold jewellery is relatively easy to maintain. Every so often, gently wipe your piece with the general microfibre jewellery cloth to remove dust, natural oils and surface residue. Store pieces separately to help prevent scratches.

Fine marks may naturally develop through wear, becoming part of the character of the piece. We recommend professional servicing every couple of years, including cleaning, inspection and polishing, completed locally in Australia.

Chains & Necklace

Fasten chains before storing them and lay them flat or hang them to prevent tangling. Herringbone and other structured chains should never be folded, twisted or pulled. Handle chains by their clasps rather than placing pressure on individual links.

Rings and Bracelets

Remove Rings and bracelets before actives involving pressure, impact or heavy use of hands. When stacking jewellery, be mindful that gemstones, sharp edges and different metals may rub against one another and cause surface marks.

Earrings

Handle earrings by their strongest points rather than pulling on posts, gemstones or decorative elements. Wipe posts and backings regularly and check that clasps remain secure before wearing.

Pendents & Charms

Check gemstone settings and attachment points regularly to ensure they remain secure. If a stone moves, a setting feels loose or anything appears unusual, stop wearing the piece and contact us for guidance.

We can assess the piece and arrange any necessary maintenance through S+M Renew, helping prevent further wear or damage.
